Groundhogs Day Birthday

Happy Groundhogs day! This is a chocolate cake with and Oreo cream filling. It's covered in chocolate frosting, and some butter cream frosting. The dirt around his head is made from Oreo crumbs. The nose is a chocolate covered marshmallow Valentines heart and the ears are hostess chocolate donuts! It was really tasty!

Harry Potter Cupcakes

The Hedwig cake was for our family party. But I also had a friend party a few days later. I wanted simple cupcakes for that.I just swirled butter cream on top of fun-fetti cupcakes. I sprinkled them with yellow cake sparkles. Then with yellow candy melts and melted those and drew out lightning bolts. Then while they were still wet, I sprinkled gold Wilton shimmer dust on to get them to sparkle. Once they were dried I put them on the cupcakes. Very simple and easy!

A Harry Potter Hedwig Birthday Cake

My oldest son wanted a Harry Potter cake. We decided to do Hedwig, Harry's pet owl. After a lot of internet searches we came up with this:

I used three different cake pans. The base of the cake is an 8 inch round cake. Then the body was baked in my Pampered Chef batter bowl - which is comparable to the Wilton Wonder Mold pan (the one to make barbie cakes). Then the head was baked in an oval pan I got from the 2 Wilton class, in my class kit. I just used a knife to make it kind of bean shaped. I stacked the cakes together, with frosting in the middle and put a dowel down the center. Then I crumb coated it with butter cream. I then used almonds for the face and belly. Cashews for the beak and claws. Peach o's where the eyes with recees pieces in the middle. The ears were white chocolate fudge oreos, cut in half. For the rest of the feathers, I used the Wilton leaf tip (which I do not use to actually make leafs) and piped long feathers layered around the body. End result: a very happy 6 year old!

I got a chance to do another Cars cake last month. I wanted it a little different than the one I already did, but keep it similar since they loved the original. I also got to make a smash cake as it was for a 1 year old. As usual it was chocolate with butter cream.

This cake was so much fun to make. I want to do another one! Chocolate must be the summer flavor of choice. It's all in butter cream, except the shells and sand. The shells are molded chocolates I made, and the sand is actually brown sugar! Yum. Lots of sugar!

Pixar Cars Cake

This is a chocolate fudge cake with strawberry cream filling. It is covered in MM fondant with gum paste stripes and mickey mouses. Also the whimsical gum ball boarder made it the hit of the night with all the kids!

This has to be one of my favorites so far. It was chocolate cake covered in lots of lots of butter cream frosting. I found a picture on the Internet and turned it into a cake with my own twist of doing individual scales to make it more dragon like. Wings and flames are fruit roll ups. Eyes are marshmallows. Nostrils are chocolate chips. Claws are lemon fruit slices. So fun to make.

This is a Golden Vanilla cake with raspberry filling. Covered in MM fondant and gum paste blossoms and butterflies. Also a pearl strand border.

The Smash cake is a single layer vanilla cake covered in butter cream frosting with gum paste butterfly and pink sparkle gel writing and accents.

Marine Wedding and Grooms Cake

So I made these cakes back in December 2008. After cleaning up the site a little, I found I had never put these cakes on.

The colors didn't show up right on my camera for some reason. But the girls colors were bright green, pink and orange. Its a carrot cake with cream cheese filling covered in fondant. It has piped flowers on and a bead border.

This is the grooms cake. I loved how it turned out. They just told me to do a Marine Cake. I molded the emblem out of gum paste. This cake is also a carrot cake with cream cheese filling. All decorations are done in butter cream frosting except the eagle, world and anchor.

I just saw that I didn't post this cake yet. Last December I made a wedding cake for my cute cousin down in St. George. It was tricky traveling with everything but it turned out well. This cake was decorating in the shortest amount of time. I think from start to finish (of just decorating) we were just over three hours!

If this cake looks familiar, its becuase she wanted the cake just like her sisters, that I did a year and a half ago!

Scooby Doo Birthday Party

A few weeks ago I tried my hand at kids Birthday cakes again. My friend had me do two Scooby Doo cakes and matching cupcakes. It was a pretty crazy weeks and this is what turned out:

This was the first cake. I was in a time crunch to get this one done, as you can see. But I had fun. Its a vanilla cake with butter cream frosting. Everything was done with the Wilton star tip.

These are the cupcakes that were served with the cake below. Once again, Vanilla cake with butter cream frosting and Wilton Sparkle Gel for the swirls. The sparkle gel was the kids favorite part. The swirls were done with the 1M tip.

Then this was the final cake. I drew Scooby's head on with a toothpick and then filled it in with starts. The swirls are done in the sparkle gel and the border is also the star tip.

Pixar's Up cake

My oldest wanted an "UP" cake for his birthday. So this is what I came up with. I baked a lemon cake in a 13x9" pan and cut out all the pieces. It's three pieces. The house, the chimeny, and the bay window/gable piece. Then I used a mini muffin pan to bake cupcakes in for the balloons. Everything is decorated in butter cream frosting. A fun cake to make!

So it's been a while since I have done a cake. My sister was married last June and this is what she wanted. We have a chocolate orange cake with raspberry filling covered with Wilton Fondant. Triage of dots with hot pink ribbon and shell border on each cake. My favorite part is her cake topper - the flamingo's. Very cute, and very Ashley.

I did this cake last weekend for my cousin. The bottom three layers were done with rice crispy treats, covered in butter cream frosting and then in marshmallow fondant. The top two layers were chocolate cake with chocolate cream filling and then covered the same as the other layers. I designed the scroll pattern and piped it on with butter cream frosting. I also designed and arranged the flowers myself.

This is a fun little cake I made for October/Halloween. Its a lemon cake with raspberry filling covered in butter cream frosting. I used black licorice for the legs. Very easy and fun.

This cake had a rough time, but I did learn a lot from it. Hopefully these mistakes will never happen again. This cake was for an all chocolate birthday party. So obviously its chocolate cake, chocolate filling and chocolate buttercream frosting with chocolate dipped strawberries.

Second Wedding Cake

This wedding cake was made with Red Velvet Cake and butter cream filling which was also used as a base for the fondant. Its then covered in Wilton pre made fondant. Each layer is wrapped is satin ribbon. I pipped a bead border around each layer and then put luster dust on each bead. I then piped the scroll design on each layer. My mom arranged the fresh flowers for this cake.

This is the first wedding cake I made. The bottom layer is made using rice crispy treats and then covered in fondant. The middle layer is raspberry chocolate, with raspberry filling. The top layer is a banana cake with cream cheese filling. They are all covered with butter cream and then home made marshmallow fondant. Black satin ribbon wraps around each layer. I then piped a scroll design using butter cream. I then added the silver edible balls. The flowers are silk and arranged by me and my mom.

First Birthday Cake

I made this cake for my sons first birthday. I used the wilton sports ball pan to create each section. Each section was a different flavor; chocolate, strawberry, and lemon. I then used the star tip to cover each section. I used gum drops for the feet, mm's for the dots and nose and pipe cleaners for the antanae. Black wilton decorating gel was used for the face.

Mission Farewell Cake 2

This is a farewell cake from someone going to Mexico. I found a similar picture on line and re-created the cake. I don't remember the flavor or filling for this cake. It is done all in butter cream. But the chili pepper is plastic. The hat a created from a small dome cake the I cut and shaped myself.

This cake was created for a mission farewell cake. I came up with the idea when I saw a circular cake made to look like a tuxedo. I made a chocolate cake with chocolate cream filling. Its then covered in a base coat of butter cream. Its then covered in home made chocolate fondant with white for the shirt. I marbled some white fondant for the tie. And I created the tag on my computer.

Final course 3 cake/Bridal Shower cake

This was my final for the Wilton course III. I also made it for a Bridal shower. The bottom cake with vanilla, with the top being chocolate. Both had fillings, but I don't remember what they were. The cakes have a butter cream base coat and then are covered in Wilton bought fondant. I then piped the flower design all over the fondant with a bead border. All the piping is done in butter cream. The bow is made from fondant and was covered in pearl luster dust (which can't be seen from the picture, but looked very pretty in person).

I created this cake for Easter. It was all my own idea. I think it was a chocolate cake with raspberry filling. Its covered all in butter cream. It has the basket weave for the basket with rope borders. The eggs were a piped design. Then I used a grass tip for the bottom and inside the basket. The flowers are made from royal frosting.

This is the first cake I made using fondant. Its a golden vanilla cake with raspberry filling. Its covered in butter cream and then covered in store bought Wilton fondant. It also has a butter cream bead border along the bottom.

Here is the second cake I completed for the Wilton course II class. I don't remember the cake flavor of filling. The basket weave and foundation frosting is butter cream. The flowers are made from royal frosting, Wilton recipe, and the bird is done out of color flow

This is the first cake I ever decorated. It was my final project from the Wilton Course I. This is a chocolate heart-shaped cake with raspberry filling. Covered in white Wilton recipe butter cream frosting. It has a small and large shell border with roses and leaves as well as small polka-dots on the sides.
