My Son wanted a Super Mario Brothers cake this summer. I was mixing up the frosting colors after midnight, and that was obviously a mistake. Somehow I got a funky teal color instead of sky blue, but oh well! It was super humid this summer as well, so the frosting was sweating a lot as well. It was still fun. Everything was done with Wilton's Buttercream frosting.
A collection of all the cakes I have created. I began in January 2008. I am still learning and love practicing for my family.

Big Hero 6 Baymax cake and cupcakes
It's Birthday season around here. My son wanted a Baymax cake from Big Hero 6. We love that show. For this body I baked a cake mix in the pampered chef batter bowl. Once the cake was cool I covered it in homemade marshmallow fondant and made the head, arms and legs from fondant as well. It was a really hot and humid day, so the fondant struggled and the gel icing ran for his eyes, but my son loved him and he tasted good!
We also made Baymax cupcakes for his classroom treat. All the kids loved it.
We found the idea on pinterest. Using a large round tip I swirled white butter cream onto the tops of our cupcakes. Then placed large marshmallows with Baymax eyes drawn on, on top.

Spider Man Birthday Cake
This was a Red Velvet cake with cream cheese filling. All the frosting is butter cream. I did buy a tube of black Wilton frosting from hobby lobby for the black details.

Lego Movie Blue and Gold Banquet Cake
Now that my boys are getting older, I am the cub master for our pack. For our Blue and Gold banquet this year we picked the theme "Everything is Awesome!" from the Lego movie. I used the silicone molds found on amazon for the large lego guy on the main cake. The smaller lego guys are made with the wilton candy melts. Everything else is from cake mixes and my usual butter cream frosting.

Star Wars Light Saber Cake
I am a mom to 4 boys - so eventually I knew I would be making Star Wars Cakes. #3 wanted a Light Saber for his latest birthday. I make a box Strawberry cake mix in a 13x9 pan and then cut it into thirds the long way. I then lined up the pieces on my board and then froze the cake. A day later I took it out of my deep freezer and carved it into a roundish shape. I used candies for the buttons and the rest is butter cream frosting. Super easy and yummy.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar Cup Cake Cake
I made this up for my friends baby shower that I threw her. It was Library/Book themed. So everything on the menu was inspired by children's books. I used two shades of green for the frosting. The head was molded out of rice crispy treats and covered in fondant. It was very cute and everyone loved it.
Yule Log Cake
When I went home for Christmas my mom asked me to make a Yule Log cake. The Recipe came from an 80's version of The Lion House Christmas Cookbook. Honestly, I was a bit skeptical, but it ended up tasting amazing. It was like a giant Hostess Ho Ho without all the preservatives. The first picture I took captured the cherries mid escape. The leaves were molded out of a green Airhead taffy.
Toucan Cake
My oldest son wanted a Toucan cake for his birthday this winter. I couldn't even find anything on Pinterest to copy. This is 100% original. I baked a chocolate cake in a 13x9 pan. I then cut out the pieces and somehow this is what I got. Oldest son was thrilled and it was a lot of fun to create! I bought the pre-tinited Wilton Black frosting. The rest is a new butter cream recipe I tried out that was delicious.
Chocolate Raspberry Cake
I made this cake for my sister when she came and visited me last summer. I used this recipe from Bird on a Cake. It tasted incredible. It was a rasberry cake, with dark chocolate ganache. I topped it with Chocolate covered Raspberries, which were the perfect touch. So yummy! I crave this cake all the time.
Monsters Inc Birthday Cake
My son wanted a Monsters University cake for his bday last summer. I decided to make a Sully Cake using the Wilton grass tip. The eyes are plastic craft googly eyes. The nose is molded out of a starburst candy. The horns are ice cream cones. I tried to heat them up and mold and bend them a little, but that didn't work out too well. My son loved it and still talks about!
Baby Boy Boat Cake
This was a simple cake with grahm cracker crumbs for sand, goldfish, and an aqua blue buttercream made to look like waves. Topped off with a paper sail boat.

Lego Cake
My son LOVES Legos and wanted them for his Birthday cake. I found a tutorial at the Betty Crocker website that had the knobs made out of large marshmallows. I baked the cakes in a bread pan instead of cutting a 13x9 up like the site said too. I had to rush the frosting because I got a last minute notice that someone was coming to see our home that was for sale in an hour. I had to rush a bit!
Rosette Wedding Cake
I made a single layer of this cake before and thought it would be great as a wedding cake. I think I was right. This is a rice crispy cake covered in butter cream rosettes. It was gorgeous!

Valentines Red Velvet Cupcake
This needs a better picture, but this is a Red Velvet cupcake with White Chocolate Cream Cheese frosting! Yum!
Groundhogs Day Birthday
Happy Groundhogs day! This is a chocolate cake with and Oreo cream filling. It's covered in chocolate frosting, and some butter cream frosting. The dirt around his head is made from Oreo crumbs. The nose is a chocolate covered marshmallow Valentines heart and the ears are hostess chocolate donuts! It was really tasty!
